Private-Sector Technology

- In order to promote the overall global economy, Japan and the United States will encourage information exchange, educational activities, researcher exchange programs and joint R&D projects on technology in infant industries, working together with private industry.

- Joint research is underway in twelve fields including low-temperature annealed ceramics processing. In addition, efforts are being made to encourage private-sector participation in joint Japan-U.S. public-private sector research projects on selected themes.

- Techno Growth-House in Tsukuba (near Tokyo), now provides offices, short-term accommodation, a library and other facilities for American researchers without a base in Japan. Japanese management courses offered at United States universities are eligible for support services, such as introduction to Japanese private industry (for students wishing to gain work experience in Japan), and associated PR. These educational activities were supplemented by a symposium on joint research in Tennessee in March 1993.
