Japan-UAE Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

   On April 30 (Saturday), for approximately 20 minutes from 1:55 pm, Minister for Foreign Affairs Takeaki Matsumoto, who is currently paying a visit to Berlin in order to participate in the 2nd Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation, held a meeting with H.E. Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zaid Al-Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates. An outline of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the beginning, Foreign Minister Matsumoto expressed his gratitude for the warm messages of sympathy that Japan had received from the United Arab Emirates on the occasion of the Great East Japan Earthquake. To this, Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah once again expressed his sympathy to Japan concerning the earthquake, and added that the UAE wished to be of help in lending support for Japan’s recovery, and also that it would like to provide such support as needed in future.

  2. The two foreign ministers exchanged views on the current situation in the Middle East and on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation issues, and they agreed that Japan and the UAE would continue to engage in close cooperation.
