Courtesy Call on Chief Cabinet Secretary Osamu Fujimura by H.E. Dr. Nizar bin Obaid Madani, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

On Wednesday, November 30, from approximately 12:00 p.m. for about 20 minutes, H. E. Mr. Chief Cabinet Secretary Osamu Fujimura received a courtesy call by H.E. Dr. Nizar bin Obaid Madani, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who visited Japan to attend the first Policy Consultation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Japan and Saudi Arabia. (Participants: Mr. Shigeo Matsutomi, Director-General of the Middle Eastern and African Affairs Bureau among others from the Japanese side; and H.E. Dr. Abdulaziz A. Turkistani, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Japan, among others from the Saudi side.) A summary of the consultation was as follows.

  1. Chief Cabinet Secretary Fujimura stated that Saudi Arabia plays a vital role to ensure the peace and stability of the Middle East and the Gulf region, and that Saudi Arabia is a key partner of Japan in the area of energy security. He expressed his appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s support in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake.

  2. Chief Cabinet Secretary Fujimura welcomed the progress made on the bilateral relations in an array of areas, including those of economy and culture. He expressed his expectations that the bilateral cooperation will be further advanced  in other areas.

  3. State Minister Madani noted the significant achievement made through the meaningful exchange of views that took place with the Government and Diet members on a variety of areas during his visit. State Minister Madani stated that Saudi Arabia expects that the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries will be further developed through people-to-people exchanges in a wide range of fields.
