II. Project / program description

  1. Objectives
    To strengthen debt management capacity of government officials in considerably indebted African countries
  2. Activities / contents
    Japan will provide training courses or seminars for officials of central banks and/or finance ministries in charge of debt management. These programs focus on the following two areas:
    (i) the basics of debt record keeping;
    (ii) strategic macro-economic management based on precise recording of debt.
    Expert dispatch will also be considered.
  3. Expected outcomes/Impacts:
    (i) Institutional and capacity building of debt management
    (ii) Increased consistency in macro-economic management based on improved debt management capacity
  4. Features in line with Agenda for Action:
    Strengthening debt management capacity is an important factor for economic development because managing debt in a proper way is the first step to reduce the debt to sustainable levels. Japanese technical cooperation will help the African countries to improve their capacity in debt management and macro-economic management.
