II. Project / program description

  1. Objectives
    To assist the Government of Burkina Faso in improving its food security in the country through rice production and other crops associated with it in rice-based farming systems (including water management).
  2. Activities / contents
    • Introduction of complete set of techniques for rice production from soil preparation to paddy processing; promotion of other crops and productive activities.
    • Small animals husbandry and artisanal fisheries.
  3. Expected outcomes / impacts
    • Increase of performance in food production.
    • Net income increase for farmers.
  4. Features in line with the Agenda for Action:
    • Grass roots participation in the formulation process and full involvement of farmers' organizations in the implementation process.
    • National Ownership.
    • Contribution to achieving the broad objectives of the World Food Summit plan of action.
    • Promotion of South-South Cooperation.
