II.Project / programme description
The project provides institution building by strengthening the capacities and technical capabilities of the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON) to enable it to operate integrated activities on standardization, quality assurance, testing and a modern documentation and information management system.
- Objectives
To promote the development of efficient and competitive industries, particularly small and medium scale manufacturing industries. - Activities / contents
Establishment: of a modern documentation and information system on standards and related matters within SON; an operational quality assurance department; operation in-house testing facilities; an initial scheme of laboratory accreditation; an initial scheme for factory inspection, advisory services in quality control and use of certification mark; preparation of a project document for the development of a metrology laboratory. - Expected outcomes / impacts

The project strengthened the capacity of SON and sensitized/trained the Nigerian manufacturing companies on the ISO 9000 series standards/quality assurance and in environmental management system, enabling many Nigerian companies to target their products for the export markets.
