II. Project / program description

  1. Objectives
    • To create product supply capacities for poor rural and urban communities linked to the export market
    • To develop human resources to support the operation of the trade sector
    • To establish technical services and strengthen institutional support for trade promotion activities
  2. Activities / contents
    • Establishment of institutional support services for trade development
    • Creation of HRD capacities and direct training
    • Strengthening of trade information services
    • Establishment of small credit schemes at community level (in collaboration with NGOs)
    • Promotion of intra-African and south-south Trade
  3. Expected outcomes / impacts
    • Availability of structures for product supply development and marketing
    • Project is designed to result in opportunities for job creation and poverty reduction
    • Lessons learned and technologies developed will be shared with countries in similar situation
  4. Features in line with the Agenda for Action
    • The Ghana Export Promotion Council, relevant ministries and private sector participated actively in project formulation process
    • Private sector well represented at Steering Committee for project management and implementation thus firmly establishing national ownership
    • Study visits to and from other developing countries will promote TCDC
    • Strengthening of marketing links and related activities will contribute to expansion of intra-African and south-south trade
