II.Project / program description

  1. Objectives
  • To enable the export sector to respond to the role assigned to it in the Government's Economic and Social Action Programme.
  1. Activities / contents
  • Promotion of the development of non-traditional products and markets
  • Establishment of trade information services
  • Development of capacities for trade-related training and direct training
  • Promoting women's participation in economic activities and trade
  • Strengthening of focal point and collaborating institutions in the private sector to achieve sustainability of trade development efforts and results.
  1. Expected outcomes / impacts
  • An overall level of greater activity in trade and export leading to more job opportunities.
  • Greater participation of Tanzania in COMESA and East African Community Trade.
  • Progress towards realization of export potential.
  1. Features in line with the Agenda for Action
  • Participation of the private sector, government and other stakeholders in the project formulation process.
  • The government and private sector played a key role in mobilizing financial resources for the project by organizing a donors' round table, thus establishing ownership.
  • Opportunities for sharing of information and experience with other developing countries.
