II. Project / program description

  1. Objectives
    Malian handcraft auto-promotion. Structuring of the informal sector and small enterprises development. Improvement of basic professional and technical skills demanded in the labour market.
  2. Activities / contents
    • An advice service (<Boutiques de conseil>), which provides advices and recommendations about legal framework management, market opportunities and training
    • An institional and financial support of the FNAM.
    • Credit: through an associative house network, provides facilities for small and micro-enterprises. Our financial support is limited to the management unit. No money is provided directly to the network.
  3. Expected outcomes / impacts
    Ownership of the Malian craftsmen within their legal, social and economical context. A better performance of the Malian manufactured products in the interior market. A promotion abroad of several products (leather, textile).
  4. Features in line with the Agenda for Action
    • Beneficiaries adapted instruments for monitoring and follow-up
    • The programme mastery must remain within the FNAM, despite of management weakness and political internal fragility
    • Proposals for continuation (next project phase) will come from the Malian partners, but most probably will focus on small enterprises which make a better use of the progressively enabled environment. Eventually in co-ordination with other donors
