Project / Program Summary

1. Objectives
   The primary objective of the project/programme is to facilitate safe access to potable water to the population in urban and semi-urban areas at a price which takes into account natural constraints, socio-economic conditions and the long-term financial sustainability of the water supply and sanitation sector.
2. Activities / contents
   • Strengthening of technical operation and extension/maintenance of infrastructure
   • Development of the sanitation sector
   • Improvement of personnel management
   • Improvement of financial management
   • Strengthening of commercial operations
   • Establishment of an improved organizational structure
3. Expected outcomes / impacts
   • Improvement of living and health conditions for the urban and semi-urban population in Burkina Faso
   • Other African countries will benefit from know-how and technology through exchange of information and training
4. Features in line with the Agenda for Action
   • The project/program contributes to African capacity building by means of German/international - African cooperation
   • The project/program is expected to contribute to improving the health situation in Burkina Faso (Africa?), particularly children by safe water supply and sanitation
   • The project/program is expected to become an example and an information/know-how centre in the region for those countries/organizations who will undertake similar developments.
