II. Project description

  • Support to restoration of basic health services, water supply and sanitation, basic education, and psycho-social support to children in need of special protection.
  • Support to advocacy and local social mobilization as part of local capacity development for emergency-disaster preparedness and management.
  1. Objectives
    • Ensuring access of women and children to basic social services (primary schooling, psycho-social support, and primary health care;)
    • Collecting information on the situation of women and children in districts experiencing insecurity;
    • Ensuring that children especially affected by the insecurity obtain appropriate assistance;
    • Preventing child abuse.
  2. Activities:
    • Preparation of a situation analysis and district emergency plan;
    • Organization of large scale measles vaccination and Vitamin A supplementation campaigns in priority districts affected by the conflict (Gulau, Arua and Kitgum);
    • Delivery of treatment for common diseases and preventive health care messages with the population;
    • Provision of water supply, construction of latrines, purchase of spare parts for bore-holes, training of hand-pump mechanics, extension of piped water;
    • Organization of national workshop on psycho-social trauma care, training of community-based volunteers, camp leaders and teachers;
    • Advocacy and follow-up on abducted children.
