II. Project description

Geophysical study and realization of approximately 500 boreholes and wells to be equipped with hand-pumps; Technical adviser and support staff to carry out the study.

  1. Objectives
    • Provide water supply in 6 districts in Southern Madagascar;
    • Combat water borne diseases and improve sanitation conditions in the targetted districts.
  2. Activities:
    • Drilling up of wells and boreholes (500 planned);
    • Installation of pumps;
    • Training of local management committees;
    • Sociological study on local practices and behaviour with regard to water and sanitation;
    • Health and hygiene education.
