II. Project description

Geophysical study and realization of approximately 500 boreholes and wells to be equipped with hand-pumps; Technical adviser and support staff to carry out the study.

Objectives
- Provide water supply in 6 districts in Southern Madagascar;
- Combat water borne diseases and improve sanitation conditions in the targetted districts.
Activities:
- Drilling up of wells and boreholes (500 planned);
- Installation of pumps;
- Training of local management committees;
- Sociological study on local practices and behaviour with regard to water and sanitation;
- Health and hygiene education.
