II. Project / programme description

  1. Objectives
    1. To have supported 9 religious institutions in sensitizing their youth, women and men groups on population and development issues through national, regional and zonal training activities and in conducting follow-up activities;
    2. To have supported three religious institutions: the Christian Council of Ghana, National Catholic Secretariat and the Muslim Family Counseling Services to continue with population/Family Planning IEC activities among their respective target groups.
    3. To have organized district level consultations on advocacy for the Girl Child, gender equality and equity, Empowerment of Women and Reproductive health and Family Planning, HIV/AIDS and Sexually-Transmitted diseases.
    4. To have enhanced the management capabilities of the implementing institutions to improve their skills in developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating their activities.
  2. Activities / contents
    Production of two training syllabuses for counseling and family life education programmes and resource handbooks for training programmes; production of a draft "National Study of Marriage and Family".
  3. Expected outcomes
    To have sensitized the population, through their religious leadership, on population and development issues with the ultimate goal of developing positive attitudes towards reproductive health issues, gender and the girl child and to have increased the usage of modern contraceptives among the population of Ghana.
  4. Features in line with the Agenda for Action
    The project addresses population, health/RH, gender, and capacity building issues.
