II. Project description

  1. Objectives
    To reduce the incidence/prevalence of STDs/HIV and to improve the medical and psycho-social services for women in precarious situations and their partners, infected or affected by HIV.
  2. Activities / contents
    1) put in place a community-based distribution of male and female condoms in the target areas;
    2) set up a data collection system to have information on the health status of the commercial sex workers;
    3) improve the capacity of peer counselors in delivering IEC messages;
    4) development of IEC material addressing the needs of the target population;
    5) organize sensitization campaign for the communities and their leaders.
  3. Expected outcome
    1) reduction of HIV prevalence among commercial sex workers;
    2) increased utilization of male and female condoms.
  4. Features in line with the Agenda for Action
    The project addresses health/RH and capacity building issues.
