- Objectives
- To ensure safe blood is available in Uganda;
- To develop regional cooperation, starting by setting up a regional training centre in blood safety.
- Activities / contents
- Technical assistance and training for the Uganda Blood Transfusion Service;
- Rehabilitation of buildings and provision of equipment and consumables to enable the Ugandan Blood Transfusion Service to provide safe blood;
- Training for other countries in the region in blood safety.
- Expected outcomes / impacts
- Ordinary people can receive medical care without fear of contracting HIV/AIDS or other diseases through blood transfusion, because safe blood is available in hospitals throughout Uganda;
- Capacity to manage a safe blood transfusion service is developed in Uganda and other countries in the region.
- Features in line with the Agenda for Action
- The project contributes to the health of the population and to enhancing technical capacity and cooperation within the region.
