II. Project / program description

  1. Objectives
    • To ensure safe blood is available in Uganda;
    • To develop regional cooperation, starting by setting up a regional training centre in blood safety.
  2. Activities / contents
    • Technical assistance and training for the Uganda Blood Transfusion Service;
    • Rehabilitation of buildings and provision of equipment and consumables to enable the Ugandan Blood Transfusion Service to provide safe blood;
    • Training for other countries in the region in blood safety.
  3. Expected outcomes / impacts
    • Ordinary people can receive medical care without fear of contracting HIV/AIDS or other diseases through blood transfusion, because safe blood is available in hospitals throughout Uganda;
    • Capacity to manage a safe blood transfusion service is developed in Uganda and other countries in the region.
  4. Features in line with the Agenda for Action
    • The project contributes to the health of the population and to enhancing technical capacity and cooperation within the region.
