II. Project / program description

  1. Objectives

    The objective of the project is to minimize the spread of HIV-AIDS and STDs in West Africa.
  2. Activities / contents

    To control HIV and STDs through primary health networks, giving priority to high-risk groups and aiming for self-financing operations.
  3. Expected outcomes / impacts

    Key outputs of the project:
    i) fully operational and supported Health centres.
    ii) Intermediary bodies (NGOs and other cooperating agencies) are strengthened in their work to combat STDs and AIDS.
    iii) A strategy to combat STDs is developed and operational.
    iv) Vital medication is available and self-financed.
    v) Health personnel and agencies supporting the project are trained in health and IEC [information, education, communication] about STDs and AIDS.
    iv) People in high-risk groups are treated for STDs and informed about and better protected against HIV and AIDS.
