- Objectives
The Seminar is particularly designed for high-ranking officials of African countries who play key roles on the question of the promotion of democracy in their countries. This seminar will introduce democratic policy, mechanism, past experiences and present practices in Japan, and to offer the opportunity to discuss on Japan's political and administrative system. - Activities / contents
Lecture: Election system in Japan, Police system in Japan, Democratization and the development of primary education, Transparency in governance with special reference to prevention of corruption, Public finance and rectification of inequality, Party politics and bureaucracy system in Japan, Local government and democracy in Japan.
Visits: Supreme Court and National Diet, Yomiuri Newspaper Company
Country report presentation and discussion. - Expected outcomes / impacts
Through the seminar program, participants are expected:
(1) to acquire knowledge of democratic policy, mechanism, past experiences, and present practices in Japan.
(2) to acquire knowledge of Japan's democratic government administration and its role played in the economic, educational and social development.
(3) to promote democracy in developing countries. - Features in line with the Agenda for Action to promote good governance in participants' countries.
