II. Project / program description

  1. Objectives
    To develop and introduce a nationwide community wildlife management concept.
  2. Activities / contents
    Based on 10 years experience in the Serious Conservation Project the government of Tanzania intends to develop and implement a nationwide concept for the management of wildlife resources for all national parks and reservates in Tanzania.
    The main management responsibility will be with the communities living in the neighbourhood of the parks.
  3. Expected outcomes / impacts
    1. A coordinating Community Wildlife Management Unit has been established.
    2. A nationwide management concept has been developed and is approved
    3. A financial management system has been implemented
    4. The legal framework has been adjusted accordingly
    5. A training concept has been developed and is being introduced
  4. Features in line with the Agenda for Action
    • The Project serves as a model for other countries in the region
    • The ownership of the project is with the Communities. They will be the ultimate beneficiaries of the project.
    • The financial resources will be provided.
