II. Project / programme description

  1. Objectives
    To eliminate the use of ODS (ozone depleting substances) as CFC 11 and CFC 12 in the production of domestic refrigerators, freezers and cold rooms insulation at FAEM through conversion to the use of HFC 134a as refrigerant for the refrigerators and freezers and cyclopentane as blowing agent for the polyurethane insulation foam.
  2. Activities / contents
    • Procurement of new machinery and equipment
    • Rebuilding and partially replacing of presently used equipment, such as vacuum pumps
    • Redesign, reconstruction, prototype manufacturing and testing of refrigerators and freezers
    • Installation, commissioning, training of national personnel in Europe and on-the-job training, trial operation and start-up.
  3. Outcomes / impacts
    Converted production lines to non-CFC using one, producing CFC-free refrigerators and freezers.
  4. Features in line with the Agenda for Action
    environment management (ozone layer protection), compliance with international conventions and global agreements and protocols
