II.Project / program description

  1. Objectives
    The Overall objective is to support achievement of Government's goals in the education sector by serving as a transition/bridging assistance, while a sustainable proposal is being processed. This will assist in maintaining progress towards achieving enrolment targets:
    • Government overall enrolment rate target is 74% for 1998/1999
    • Gross Enrolment Rate for girls is 67% for 1998/1999
    The project will also contribute to increase attendance, retention of children in school and reduce children short term hunger.
  2. Activities / contents
    School feeding: WFP will provide to beneficiary children a porridge in the morning (to reduce short term hunger) in addition to hot mid-day lunch.
  3. Expected outcomes / impacts
    An average of 96,000 children will be fed in primary day schools, throughout 162 days of the 1998/1999 school year.
  4. Features in line with the Agenda for Action
    This project is in line with the Agenda for Action as it covers one of its topic, that is Education.
