II.Project / programme description

  1. Objectives
    Support the Government's programme to improve the quality of and increase access to education within the context of education for all by the year 2000.
  2. Activities / contents
    • Avoid closing down and ensure continuous operation of boarding-schools throughout the country at all educational levels during the full school year.
    • Reduce short-term hunger of day students at boarding-schools and selected day-schools in drought-stricken areas.
    • Contribute to household food security of teachers at assisted schools.
  3. Expected outcomes / impacts
    • Assist with 80,190,000 rations to 27,000 boarding students in 173 boarding-schools.
    • Assist with 33,480,000 rations to 31,000 day students in 173 boarding-schools.
    • Assist with 18,000,000 rations to 25,000 students in about 80 selected day-schools in drought-stricken areas.
    • Assist with 9,360,000 rations to 5,000 teachers in both boarding and day-schools assisted by the project.
