- Objectives
Assisting the Group of Governmental Experts on Small Arms, to tackle the issue of excessive and stabilizing accumulation and transfers of small arms, which threatening public order and hindering post-conflict nation-building efforts even after conflicts have been settled, and from which several African countries and regions are seriously suffering. To hold a three day workshop participated by 23 members of the Group of Governmental Experts on Small Arms as a subsidiary meeting for the Group. (SEE the project summary entitled "the Group of Governmental Experts on Small Arms" in this List.) - Expected outcomes / impacts
To assist the Group of Governmental Experts on Small Arms and to facilitate its activities in finalizing its work to report to the UN Secretary-General in July 1999. (SEE the project summary entitled "the Group of Governmental Experts on Small Arms" in this List.) - Features in line with the Agenda for Action
Discussion on the issue of small arms described in the "Guidelines for Actions" under the title, "3.2 Conflict Prevention and Post-Conflict Development", such as effective management and eventual destruction of small arms and demobilization of soldiers, will be conducted.
