II. Project / program description

  1. Objectives
    To build a comprehensive database in order to:
    1. Collect and store the necessary economic, social and political information for monitoring the implementation of the decisions of Heads of State and Government of the OAU/AEC.
    2. Build OAU's capability to provide data and quality analysis on the range of socio-economic and political developments for the benefit of member states.
    3. Serve as a resource center for information and analysis to researchers, academic institutions, the private sector, NGOs and regional and international development agencies.

    1. Set-up a statistical Services Unit (SSU)
    2. Develop Internet Access to Africa Briefings
    3. Instal the Africa Live Database at the OAU
    4. Program the Africa Live Database for OAU use
  3. Expected outcomes / impacts
    1. Improvement of staff skills
    2. Integrated Electronic Data
    3. Publications to the Regional Economic Communities and OAU/AEC member states
  4. Features in line with the Agenda for Action
    Will contribute to African capacity building for economic integration.
