II. Project / program description

  1. Objectives
    Improvement of socio-economic living conditions by improvement of roads and traffic conditions in the project region; employment opportunities for unqualified labourers.
  2. Activities
    Labour-based road construction shall make predominantly use of manpower, that is by labour-based techniques.The designs shall be suited to labour-based construction where possible.
    No mechanical self-propelled equipment shall be used other than on activities which cannot be carried out by manual labour in an effective and efficient manner.
    Equitable opportunities for employment shall be offered to women and men, and of all age groups, subject to the laws of the country.
  3. Expected outcomes / impacts
    40 km gravel roads, 21 km surfaced road, 15,000 remunerated worker months; additional employment and income for local population.
  4. Features in line with the Agenda for Action
    Poverty reduction, innovative action.
