II. Project / program description

  1. Objectives
    The objective of the programme is to promote poverty alleviation by sharing best practices.
  2. Activities
    Building on the existing social mobilisation activities of SAPAP, the programme is designed to carry out:
    1. Exchange of information on poverty alleviation:
    2. Training of (community) leaders on poverty alleviation:
    3. Establishment of East Africa Poverty Alleviation Network;
    4. Dissemination of information on micro-credit; and
    5. Exchange tours for practitioners of poverty alleviation between South Asia and East Africa.
  3. Expected outcomes / impacts
    The end of the programme duration will have achieved the following:
    1. 120 practitioners from South Asia and East Africa have shared information and experiences on poverty alleviation;
    2. 60 selected community leaders trained:
    3. East Africa Poverty Alleviation Network established for strengthening mutual cooperation among members; and
    4. Effective methods for micro credit disseminated.
  4. Asia/Africa Cooperation
    * Participating countries of South Asia Poverty Alleviation Programme (SAPAP) are Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Similar institutional network of East Africa institutional networks of East African institutions engaged in promoting poverty alleviation is established (EAPAP). SAPAP and EAPAP will cooperate in training and exchange of personnel to share experiences.
