II. Project / program description

  1. Objectives
    1. To develop a framework for policy development linking grassroots women's small enterprise with national policies and programmes on micro lending.
    2. Support women to establish small enterprises on a pilot basis.
    3. Develop a monitoring methodology to monitor the pilot projects.
    4. Explore alternative funding mechanisms to support small micro enterprise programmes for grassroots women on a sustainable basis.
  2. Activities / contents
    • Undertake country analysis situation of women in poverty in the pilot countries
    • Undertake grassroots pilot projects with community based organizations
    • Establish and implement a women's leadership institute to share experience from the different countries.
  3. Expected outcomes / impacts
    • Countries in the SADC region will share information and best practices on women's economic empowerment at the grassroots level
    • Countries will strengthen networking for gender mainstreaming and women's economic empowerment both within the SADC and Africa.
