II. Project / program description

  1. Objectives
    Ensure full participation and ownership by the civil society and its representative organisations of the National Action Programme (NAP) processes to combat Desertification in order to encourage lasting impact of related initiatives.
  2. Activities / contents
    The above mentioned objective would be achieved through the deployment of 14 National UNV Participatory Development Specialists attached to the National Co-ordinating Bodies. They would facilitate participatory NAP processes and promote capacity building among civil society organisations for the design and implementation of the CCD.
  3. Expected outcomes / impacts
    a) Facilitate participatory NAP processes and foster partnership building among stakeholders.
    b) Effective participation of NGOs and representative organisations of local population in the NAP processes to combat desertification.
    c) Assist in the preparation of a proposal for the establishment and operationalisation of National Desertification Funds by ensuring full participation of all the stakeholders.
    d) Stimulate public opinion's awareness of and interest in combating Desertification
