II. Project / program description

  1. Objectives
    To support the national authorities of Malawi in the development of the agricultural sector, special emphasis on small farmers.
  2. Activities / contents
    The programme will support the elaboration of the Government's agricultural sector investment plan (Masip) through capacity-building and policy-formulation in the Ministry of Agriculture. Support will be given to the Masip secretariat, to the integration of gender issues throughout the Ministry, as well as to relevant studies in connection with the preparation of the sector programme. The programme will also promote the formulation of national policies within the areas of irrigation, livestock and natural resource management and develop major interventions within the same sub-sectors.
  3. Expected outcomes / impacts
    Strengthened national capacity, development of sound and sustainable agricultural sub-sector programmes within irrigation and livestock. Improved conditions of small farmers.
