(i)The first group (12 countries) presented their NRDS at the 2nd CARD General Meeting in June 2009 and held discussion with donor countries. (ii) NRDS launching events were held in 8 countries; implementation of NRDS is underway at national level.

Current Status of Implementation 2008

Status
(i) JICA organized the 1st Coalition for African Rice Development (CARD) General Meeting in October 2008 with other relevant organizations. At this meeting the implementation framework of CARD was agreed and the first group for the assistance was selected as follows; Cameroon, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar. (ii) In February 2009, the workshop was held at the Africa Rice Center (WARDA) in Benin in order to formulate the National Rice Development Strategy (NRDS) and each member country of the first group produced a zero draft of the NRDS by the end of March 2009.
