Signing of the Joint Declaration between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Kingdom of Thailand on border conflict

  1. Japan welcomes the recent signing of the Joint Declaration on border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand in Malaysia by Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and H.E. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, in the presence of the Honorable Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America, and Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia. This agreement represents tangible and steady progress of the ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand. Japan hopes that tensions between the two countries will be eased peacefully through the implementation of this agreement.
  2. Japan expresses its deep respect for the diplomatic efforts of the United States of America and Malaysia, the ASEAN Chair, which have dedicated themselves to confidence-building between the two countries towards this agreement.
  3. The improvement of the relations between Cambodia and Thailand is indispensable for the stability and development of the entire region. In this regard, the Government of Japan, in coordination with relevant countries, will continue to promote de-escalation of the situation, including the provision of equipment through Japan's Official Security Assistance (OSA) to Malaysia which leads ceasefire observer teams, in order to realize medium- to long-term consolidation of peace.
