Regarding Attacks by the Houthis on Saudi Arabia

- From October 7 to 10, international airports in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia were attacked by the Houthis in Yemen, resulting in civilian casualties and damage to civilian facilities. In particular, it has been reported that the attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on October 10 caused 12 casualties and over 300 injuries including civilians at present.
- Japan expresses its sincere condolences to the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the families of the victims of the attacks and prays for the earliest recovery of those injured. Attacks on civilians and civilian facilities can never be tolerated, and Japan renews its strong denunciation of the series of attacks by the Houthis. At the same time, Japan reiterates its strong call on the Houthis to immediately stop escalating the situation both inside and outside Yemen.
- Peace and stability in the entire Middle East are of the utmost importance to the international community as a whole including Japan from the perspective of energy security as well. Japan will continue to make every diplomatic effort in cooperation with relevant countries including Saudi Arabia and Yemen toward an early de-escalation and stabilization of the situation.
- The Government of Japan will also continue to take all possible measures to ensure the protection of Japanese nationals in the Middle East.
