  1. On July 20, the Houthis in Yemen declared a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia. Since then, the Houthis have attacked Saudi Arabian crude oil tankers navigating through the Red Sea, as well as other facilities including oil-related facilities and civilian airports in Saudi Arabia, resulting in civilians sustained injuries.
  2. Furthermore, the Houthis continue to carry out military activities in Yemen. The attack on an internally displaced persons camp on August 7 resulted in civilian casualties.
  3. Peace and stability in the Middle East, including ensuring the free and safe navigation, are of the utmost importance to the international community, including Japan. In addition, attacks on civilians and civilian facilities cannot be tolerated. From this standpoint, Japan strongly denounces this recent series of attacks by the Houthis. At the same time, we call on the Houthis to refrain from escalating the situation.
  4. Japan will continue to make every diplomatic effort, in cooperation with the international community, to promote peace and stability in the Middle East.
