On October 27, commencing at 5:15 p.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. NAKASONE Yasutaka, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from a delegation of six members of the European Parliament Committee on Security and Defence, led by Ms. Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, Chair of the Committee.

  1. At the outset, while welcoming the delegation’s first visit to Japan in four years, State Minister NAKASONE stated that, given the current fluid international situation, the security environments surrounding the Indo-Pacific and the Euro-Atlantic are severe and closely connected to each other, and that he would like to further elevate Japan-EU relations not only in the close economic and trade ties that form their backbone but also in the fields of security and defence.
  2. Furthermore, State Minister NAKASONE stated that since the release of the Japan-EU Security and Defence Partnership, dialogue has advanced across a wide range of areas, including maritime security, cyber, space, hybrid warfare, and the defence industry, and that he would like to work together toward realizing concrete cooperation, including collaboration in the fields of technology and innovation. In response, Ms. Strack-Zimmermann also expressed her support.
  3. Both sides also exchanged views broadly on regional affairs and concurred on further deepening the strategic cooperative relationship between Japan and the EU.
