State Minister for Foreign Affairs KUNIMITSU’s Visit to India
From September 10 to 13, Dr. KUNIMITSU Ayano, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, visited Kolkata, West Bengal in India. She exchanged views with the following high-level officials of the government of West Bengal. She also visited various sites in West Bengal.
1. Meetings with the high-level officials of West Bengal
(1) Meeting with H.E. R. N. Ravi, Governor of West Bengal
State Minister KUNIMITSU expressed her congratulations on the formation of the new government in West Bengal in May this year. Both sides discussed various potential of Japan-India relations. They also concurred on working together to further strengthen the bilateral relationship in view of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries.
(2) Meeting with H.E. Tapas Roy, Minister-in-Charge, Department of Industry, Commerce and Enterprises, Government of West Bengal
State Minister KUNIMITSU explained the current situation of Japanese companies in West Bengal and requested the Minister to cooperate for further promoting the investment by Japanese companies. Both sides concurred on deepening the cooperation to promote people-to-people exchanges, including business and tourism.
2. Site Visits
(1) Visit to Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd.,
State Minister KUNIMITSU visited Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Ltd., a shipyard under the Ministry of Defense, Government of India. She exchanged views with its executive management to further promote the defense cooperation between Japan and India.
(2) Visit to Netaji Bhawan
State Minister KUNIMITSU visited Netaji Bhawan, a museum commemorating Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, who was an Indian independence activist with ties to Japan. A relative of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose explained State Minister KUNIMITSU regarding the Indian independence movement.
