Japan-Germany Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Meeting

On August 27, commencing at 5:00 p.m., Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone meeting with H.E. Dr. Johann Wadephul, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany, for approximately 50 minutes.
- At the outset, Foreign Minister Wadephul explained his recent visit to Ukraine and stated that he had concerns over the expanding damage to civilians and infrastructure in Ukraine. While expressing his deep appreciation for Japan’s support for Ukraine to date, Foreign Minister Wadephul expressed his intention to continue to seek Japan’s cooperation for support for Ukraine. In response, Minister MOTEGI stated that Japan will continue to provide support tailored to the situation and needs of Ukraine and reiterated that Japan would never waver in its consistent position of standing with Ukraine.
- Based on Minister MOTEGI's visit to the Middle East last week, the two ministers also exchanged views on the situations in the Middle East, including the importance of ensuring free and safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz without any additional fees.
- Furthermore, the two ministers had exchanges of views on bilateral relations including economy and concurred that Japan and Germany will continue to work closely together.
