Statement by State Minister for Foreign Affairs KUNIMITSU on the occasion of the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) Ministerial Segment

State Minister KUNIMITSU delivering a statement

On July 15 (July 14 local time), Dr. KUNIMITSU Ayano, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting New York in the U.S., attended the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) 2026 Ministerial Segment held at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters and delivered a statement on behalf of the Government of Japan.

  1. State Minister KUNIMITSU emphasized that, in light of the multiple interconnected crises facing the international community, stronger collaboration among all actors is indispensable, and stated the importance of the steady implementation of the sustainable development goals (SDGs).
  2. State Minister KUNIMITSU also expressed that Japan would advance its efforts based on three pillars: (1) transforming solutions to social challenges into engines for growth; (2) pursuing an inclusive society in which “no one is left behind”; and (3) sharing Japan’s experience as a frontrunner in addressing social challenges, while promoting co-creation.
  3. Furthermore, State Minister KUNIMITSU stated that Japan would strengthen partnerships with a wide range of stakeholders and deepen cooperation with the international community toward the realization of a sustainable society, with a view beyond 2030.
