Participation in the Second Ministerial Meeting of the Palestine Donor Group (PDG)

On July 13 (same day in local time), the Second Ministerial Meeting and Senior Officials Meeting of the Palestine Donor Group (PDG) were convened in Brussels, the capital of Belgium. Japan was represented by Ambassador ARAIKE Katsuhiko, Ambassador for the Palestinian Affairs and Representative of Japan to Palestine.
- The meeting was attended by representatives of EU member states, the Palestinian Authority (PA) (H.E. Dr. Mohammad Mustafa, Prime Minister, and H.E. Dr. Estephan Anton Salameh, Minister of Finance and Planning), Middle Eastern countries, major donor countries, the Board of Peace, international organizations, and other relevant parties. Discussions were held on the efforts toward the PA’s reforms and progress thereof, as well as the efforts and challenges toward early recovery of the Gaza Strip.
- At the meeting, Ambassador Araike expressed strong endorsement for the PA's efforts to implement reforms in cooperation with the international community and commended the tangible results that these efforts have yielded. He reaffirmed Japan's position of maintaining its support for the PA’s reforms through cooperation on Palestinian state-building efforts.
- On the occasion of this meeting, the EU announced the launch of the "Team Gaza Initiative," aimed at bringing together EU member states and like-minded countries in preparation for early recovery of the Gaza Strip and contributing to the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and the "Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict." Japan also joined this initiative in line with its commitment to making meaningful contributions toward the smooth delivery of humanitarian assistance and early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza in close cooperation with relevant countries and international organizations.
- Ambassador ARAIKE also took the opportunity to exchange views with representatives of participating countries and organizations, and concurred on working together towards the future rebuilding of Gaza.
