Japan-New Zealand Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On July 10, from 4:30 p.m. for approximately 35 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a Japan-New Zealand Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with Rt. Hon. Winston Peters, Minister of Foreign Affairs of New Zealand.
- At the outset, Minister MOTEGI welcomed Foreign Minister Peters’ visit to Japan, his first time in two years, and expressed his intention to continue deepening bilateral relations as “Strategic Cooperative Partners” sharing common values and principles, including coordination in the Pacific Island region, which is a key of the "Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)." Minister MOTEGI also expressed his intention to further advance bilateral relations ahead of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which falls next year.
- With concrete progress in cooperation in mind, including the signing of ACSA and the entry into force of the Information Security Agreement, the two ministers confirmed their commitment to further strengthening cooperation, including in the fields of security.
- Furthermore, the two ministers exchanged views on the situation in the Indo-Pacific region - including issues surrounding China, addressing North Korea, and cooperation with Pacific Island country and the region - as well as on the situation in the Middle East. They also shared their intention to strengthen cooperation among like-minded countries, including through IP4 (Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and the Republic of Korea).
