Dispatch of the Second Japan Disaster Relief Medical Team in Response to the Earthquake Damage in Venezuela
In light of the high demand for medical support in the earthquake-affected areas of Venezuela, the Government of Japan decided to dispatch the second batch of the Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) Medical Team to the affected area. The second team consists of staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), as well as registered doctors, nurses, and other health professionals, and is scheduled to depart Japan for Venezuela next week.
The Government of Japan will continue to stand by the people of Venezuela and provide necessary assistance based on local needs.

In Venezuela, a magnitude 7+ earthquake that occurred at approximately 7:00 a.m. Japan Standard Time on Thursday, June 25, caused numerous casualties, including deaths and injuries, and property damage. According to the Venezuelan government's announcement, the damage includes 3,889 deaths and over 16,740 injuries (as of July 10, 6:00a.m.). According to an assessment by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), approximately 58,870 buildings across the affected areas may have been destroyed or damaged. The full extent of the damage is still unknown.
