Emergency Grant and Other Humanitarian Assistance in Response to the Earthquake Disaster in Venezuela
On July 10, the Government of Japan decided to provide an Emergency Grant of USD 3.5 million in response to the earthquake disaster in Venezuela.
- In response to the earthquake disaster in Venezuela, the Government of Japan had already decided on June 30 to provide emergency relief goods, such as plastic sheet (Tarpaulin), portable jerry can, and water purifier, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and on July 1 to dispatch the Japan Disaster Relief Medical Team. In addition, Japan Platform (JPF), a mechanism for emergency humanitarian assistance by NGOs, the business community and the government, plans to implement approximately USD 1 million of humanitarian assistance funded by the Japanese government’s grant.
- The Government of Japan intends to work closely with relevant agencies and organizations to provide the necessary assistance that benefits the people of Venezuela in a timely manner.

In Venezuela, an earthquake measuring more than magnitude 7.0 that occurred at approximately 7:00 a.m. Japan Standard Time on Thursday, June 25, caused numerous casualties, and extensive property damage. According to the Venezuelan government's announcement, the damage includes 3,889 deaths and over 16,740 injuries. According to an assessment by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), approximately 58,870 buildings across the affected areas may have been destroyed or damaged. The full extent of the damage is still unknown.

The amount of contributions: JPY 150 million (Approximately USD 1 million) Based on the ongoing needs assessment in the field, JPF member NGOs will provide support to disaster victims, utilizing funds provided by the Japanese government to JPF.
