The Second Japan-Libya Economic Forum

On July 9, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, and the Sasakawa Peace Foundation co-hosted the Second Japan-Libya Economic Forum under the theme “The Forefront of Libya’s Rebuilding and Growth: Economy, Energy, and Expectations for Japan.”
- Following opening remarks by Mr. ONISHI, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs (Reference 1), Mr. Suhail Abdulmuttalib ABUSHIHA, Minister of Economy and Trade expressed his appreciation for the holding of the Economic Forum and the participation of many Japanese companies. He also mentioned the current investment climate in Libya and the situation regarding foreign companies operating in the country, and conveyed his expectations for the re-entry of Japanese companies into the Libyan market.
- H.E. Dr. KHALIFA Rajab Abdulsadeq, Minister of Oil and Gas and Mr. MASOUD Suleiman, Chairman of the National Oil Corporation explained the current situation and future prospects of Libya’s oil and gas sector, which accounts for more than 60 percent of the country’s GDP.
- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained the business environment in Libya, taking into account the bilateral relationship between Japan and Libya, as well as recent political and security developments in Libya.
