Participation of Senior Deputy Minister AKAHORI in the second “Pax Silica Summit”

On June 25-26 (local time), Mr. AKAHORI Takeshi, Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who was visiting Washington, D.C., attended the second “Pax Silica Summit” hosted by the U.S. Department of State.

  1. Japan places great importance on cooperation and coordination with other countries in the area of economic security. Since its launch last year, Japan has participated in this initiative, which aims to advance cooperation among like-minded countries, including Japan and the U.S., to strengthen AI-related supply chains.
  2. At this second summit, discussions were held on a wide range of issues related to economic security under the chairmanship of Mr. Jacob Helberg, Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs. Several senior U.S. government officials, including Mr. Michael Kratsios, Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), also participated in the meeting. In addition, representatives from private companies took part in some of the sessions, who joined exchanges of views between the public and private sectors. Furthermore, the governments of a total of 35 countries and regions, including Japan, signed the Joint Statement on AI Opportunity Partnership, affirming their shared understanding regarding the promotion of innovation and cooperation on AI.
