Japan-Omani Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Call

On June 17, commencing at 3:00 p.m. for 30 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a telephone call with H.E. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, Foreign Minister of Oman.
- At the outset, Minister MOTEGI, regarding the current situation surrounding Iran, welcomed the agreement of a Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran as a major step towards the resolution of the situation. He also reiterated his deep respect for Oman, particularly Minister Badr, for playing an important role in the mediation between the United States and Iran, even prior to the outbreak of the recent hostilities.
- Furthermore, Minister MOTEGI stated that it is important that this memorandum of understanding is steadily implemented, that free and safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz is actually ensured, and that a final agreement is reached as soon as possible. He added that Japan, with an eye on the final agreement, will play an active role for the region’s recovery and reconstruction.
- In response, Minister Badr provided an explanation of Oman’s efforts, including the situation and the outlook regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
- The two ministers concurred on continuing close communication towards peace and stability throughout the Middle East, including ensuring free and safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
