Japan-Germany Vice-Ministers' Meeting

On June 9, in Tokyo, Mr. FUNAKOSHI Takehiro, Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with Dr. Géza Andreas von Geyr, State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany. The meeting commenced at 17:00, lasted for approximately 3 hours, and included a working dinner.

  1. The two sides confirmed that Japan and Germany will strengthen bilateral relations in a wide range of fields, including security and defense as well as economic security such as supply chain resilience. Vice-Minister FUNAKOSHI also explained the initiatives on the evolution of a "Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)" recently announced by Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, and confirmed to further deepen their cooperation toward realizing a FOIP.
  2. With the G7 Summit just around the corner, the two sides also exchanged views on a wide range of topics such as regional issues, including the situation in the Indo-Pacific, the Middle East, and Ukraine as well as cooperation on global issues. The two sides confirmed that Japan and Germany will further strengthen their ties through bilateral cooperation and discussions in the international arena, including the G7.
