Japan-Mongolia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On June 9, commencing at around 4:00 p.m. for 60 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Batmunkh BATTSETSEG, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, who is visiting Japan to attend “NIKKEI FORUM 31st FUTURE OF ASIA.”
- At the outset, Minister MOTEGI welcomed Minister BATTSETSEG’s visit to Japan and stated that he would like to further strengthen the bilateral relationship as “the Special Strategic Partners for Peace and Prosperity” and work together to realize the peace and stability in the region. In response, Minister BATTSETSEG stated that, as the Special Strategic Partners, she would like to continue to further materialize cooperation with Japan.
- Minister MOTEGI expressed his intention to continue promoting bilateral cooperation to support Mongolia in enhancing its self-sustainability and resilience. In this context, Minister MOTEGI conveyed Japan’s intention to cooperate on the expansion of Chinggis Khaan International Airport, which is key to improving connectivity, and Minister BATTSETSEG expressed her gratitude. Also, the two ministers concurred on holding the vice-ministerial level strategic dialogue at an early date to deepen Japan-Mongolia relations.
- In addition, the two ministers exchanged views on cooperation in regional and international arena. During the discussion, Minister MOTEGI once again expressed his appreciation for Mongolia’s understanding and cooperation on the abductions issue.
