Japan-Mexico Foreign Ministers’ Telephone Meeting

On June 9, commencing at 9:00 a.m. for 20 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a Foreign Ministers’ telephone meeting with H.E. Mr. Roberto Velasco Álvarez, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the United Mexican States.

  1. Secretary Velasco stated that, in accordance with President Sheinbaum’s instructions, Mexico places great importance on its relationship with Japan and looks forward to continuing to work together to deepen bilateral relationship. In response, Minister MOTEGI mentioned he shared this view entirely and expressed his expectation to strengthen cooperation in order to elevate the relationship between the two countries, which are “strategic global partners”, to new heights.
  2. Both Ministers, in light of the recent Japan-Mexico Summit Telephone Call, confirmed their commitment to advancing cooperation in the energy sector under the current situation in the Middle East and strengthening high-level bilateral dialogue. They also agreed to establish an economic dialogue framework, including economic security, between the two countries at an early date.
  3. Minister MOTEGI asked cooperation in creating a favorable environment for Japanese companies in Mexico, and Secretary Velasco stated that the presence of Japanese companies in Mexico is important for Mexico as well, and expressed his commitment to working toward strengthening economic relations between the two countries.
  4. Finally, Minister MOTEGI expressed his expectations for the success of the FIFA World Cup, which begins on the 11th in Mexico, and good performances by both countries’ national teams.
