Foreign Minister MOTEGI's Attendance at the Welcome Reception for the “Island States Ocean Summit” (Results)

On June 2nd, Minister for Foreign Affairs MOTEGI Toshimitsu attended the welcome reception for the “Island States Ocean Summit,” organized by the Nippon Foundation, to be held in Tokyo on the following 3rd and 4th of June. The reception was attended by heads of state and ministers from approximately 30 countries who visited Japan for the occasion, as well as representatives of United Nations agencies, experts, relevant cabinet ministers and other government officials of Japan, members of the Diet, and intellectuals, among others. At the opening of the reception, Minister Motegi delivered remarks on behalf of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which co-hosted the summit.
- Minister Motegi welcomed the attendees of the "Island States Ocean Summit" to Japan, and noted that Japan has positioned "Sustainable use and development of the ocean" and "comprehensive maritime security" as the two pillars of its maritime policy, and has been advancing efforts including international cooperation in this regard.
- He also introduced that the rule of law at sea is an important theme in the Updated "Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)" announced by Prime Minister TAKAICHI last month, and stated that Japan would contribute to connecting this summit to concrete efforts aimed at resolving common challenges faced by island nations.
