May 30, 2026
On 29 May, the governments of the U.S., Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, the ROK and the U.K., together with the European External Action Service (EEAS), issued a joint statement on the implementation of sanctions against North Korea.
- The joint statement calls upon the North Korea Sanctions Committee (the 1718 Committee), to examine information regarding violations and take appropriate measures with respect to the five vessels identified as having been involved in clear violations of obligations under UN Security Council resolutions prohibiting the export of North Korean coal and iron ore, as well as the seven vessels that were nominated to the 1718 Committee in December 2025 for designation pursuant to UN Security Council resolution 2321 and remain under consideration.
- The Government of Japan will continue to work closely with the international community to promote the full implementation of relevant UN Security Council resolutions and to call for the complete dismantlement of North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
