Foreign Minister MOTEGI’s Attendance at Japan UNESCO 75th Anniversary Celebration Forum

On May 20, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs co-hosted Japan UNESCO 75th Anniversary Celebration Forum together with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the United Nations University. The forum was attended by approximately 200 participants, including H.E. Prof. Khaled El-Enany, Director-General of UNESCO, Mr. MATSUMOTO Yohei, Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Ms. HIBIYA Junko, Chairperson of the Japanese National Commission for UNESCO, Prof. Tshilidzi Marwala, Rector of the United Nations University, and other persons involved in UNESCO activities in Japan. From the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended and delivered congratulatory remarks. The overview is as follows:

  1. UNESCO is the first UN agency that Japan joined after the war, and it is an important partner in Japan's diplomacy and development cooperation policies. Japan highly appreciates UNESCO’s activities and has actively cooperated and collaborated with it.
  2. Currently, as the international community becomes more divided and confrontational, and global challenges become more serious, UNESCO's role is becoming increasingly important. It is essential for UNESCO to play an even greater role.
  3. The Government of Japan will support UNESCO's activities and contribute to the peace and development of the international community through cooperation in various fields.
