Signing of the Japan-Brazil Memorandum of Cooperation on Assisting Japanese and Brazilian Nationals Abroad

On May 18, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and H.E. Mr. Mauro Vieira, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federative Republic of Brazil, who was visiting Japan as a guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil on Assisting Japanese and Brazilian Nationals Abroad.
- In the light of the close bonds of friendship and deep human ties between Japan and Brazil, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation in communities and consular issues, in line with the Strategic and Global Partnership Action Plan Japan-Brazil (2025-2030) adopted at the Japan-Brazil Summit meeting in March 2025. Recognizing that such bilateral cooperation is instrumental in providing smooth assistance to their nationals in times of crisis, both sides have agreed to sign the Memorandum.
- Under this Memorandum, both sides will share information in peace time, which is expected to contribute significantly to ensuring the safety of Japanese and Brazilian nationals during crises, as the Memorandum provides a foundation for further facilitating smooth cooperation in times of crises.
